About Christ College of Arts and Science

Christ College of Arts and Science was established in 2008 by the Archdiocese of Madras-Mylapore in Tamil Nadu, to promote higher education among the rural poor.  It is a co-educational institution, approved by the Department of Higher Education, Government of Tamil Nadu and affiliated to the University of Madras.  The College was started with the specific purpose of serving the socially marginalized, economically backward and politically powerless, rural poor girls and boys, who would otherwise not have easy access to the University Education.

Kilachery village, 50 kms away from Chennai city, to its west, was chosen for establishing this institution for good reasons.

  • The area is a fast developing industrial zone, promising abundant career opportunities.
  • The village borders three rural districts of Thiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Vellore and so an apt location to cater to the educational needs of these backward districts.
  • Seventy villages around Kilachery have 20 large Public Higher Secondary Schools with thousands of students who would normally drop out after school education but now Christ College provides them an opportunity to pursue job-oriented higher education.
